Full immersion in a dream

Each room hides a secret

My ideal client is the one who asks me about wi-fi connection after half a day spent in nature... that means that they were completely involved in the Scuderia Castello experience.
And that's a lot - Giovanni Zambiasi

The best hospitality

Every room has its own private bathroom, all of the rooms except for one have a balcony or terrace with a view over the Garda lake and Mount Baldo.

The Lemon Room

Many years ago The Lemon Room was taken by a lady who came here desperate because she found out her husband cheated on her with a younger woman.
She asked to stay as long as it took her to heal her pain and, during the following three months, her pain turned into revenge and it happened the lady had still her former husband credit cards.
She wildly shopped and to these days everybody can remember her leaving just before Christmas: her Volkswagen Golf full of shopping bags and a rented van with a driver stocked with stuff (designer bags and wine bottles).

It seems that sleeping for as little as three nights in this room provokes compulsive shopping attacks, that's why we recommend to bring with you only prepaid credit cards... just in case, y'know...

The Pomegranate Room

During the first opening year, The Pomegranate Room was rented by a beautiful woman who came by herself wanting to spend pleasing hours riding horses and eating our delicious food.
This particular room had a pink colored set which – by unknown reasons – every night would move to the next room which was instead decorated with a green set: pink pillow in the green room or green blanket in the pink room.
That went on for a week.
Nobody ever found out why it kept on happening because the green room was occupied by a devoted and shy priest.
The holy man left in the middle of his staying when also his sock and underwear were found in The Pomegranate Room, leaving the attractive woman alone with her mystery.

"Still these days we suggest that our guests keep their underwear and blankets in the locked wardrobe so they don't have to knock on the neighbor's door in the morning."

The Orange Room

The Orange Room has a peculiar corner unknown by most of our customers. There's a French window and another little window through which the light illuminates a nook, a space seemingly not functional.
First at realizing its magic was a German doctor.
He was in his eighties and loved spending time reading books. He asked to move the old wicker chair in this nook and enjoyed his reading there for hours and days. Between the pages he used to peek out the window where he would see the Church of Gaino dedicated to Archangel Michael.
He also put the chair at 45° to let more light in.
After a very few days, his aches and pains disappeared, so he set aside his readings and started very carefully riding a horse along the paths of the hills.
Years later, a dowser explained that the chair was located along a meridian of the geomagnetic earthly net and this flow of energy seems to be beneficial for both one person's spirit and body.

“The armchair days are not over yet. Even though it carries the signs of the passing time, you can still find it there. Bring a book, there's no better place where you could read it.”

The Grapes Room

The Grapes Room is the brightest one and has really nice painting of a vineyard and a large terrace. It's spacious and located in the north-east corner, offers a magnificent view on the lake and the plateau of Gaino, with olive trees and Folino village.
Nevertheless, the customers in this room really get under the influence of Baccus, the Greek wine god. I can't tell you how many of them find themselves drunk and wake up in the morning with their shoes on.
But there is more, sometimes they mistake the wardrobe door for the bathroom door and the consequences are... well, you can imagine.

“These days we try to be picky and select only alcohol-free guests or at least we warn them about the risks of drinking too much. We don't want to limit the pleasure of a good bottle of wine because it's no sin, but we try to avoid to get the wardrobe replaced too many times in a year.”

The Buttero* Room

Located on the ground floor, it features a covered front porch, but the story it's got to tell is more important than the tranquility and privacy it offers.
Many guests have slept in it and many among them were special people, men and women who love horses and are a part of the Scuderia Castello's story. Let me tell you about Decio, the old buttero* from Civitella Cesi (a special place hidden in the Tuscia and land of men, women and horses).
He was a an old man of 75 and he was nice enough to accompany us on a tour by horse throughout his homeland, the “maremma Viterbese”. The morning we left, Decio came with us back home, in the North, in order to visit our land with our olive trees, which are “distant relatives” of those brought here by his people (Etruschi) a very long time ago.
Decio stayed for many months and he was a precursor in the sense that nowadays it's not an uncommon thing to exchange your work and your capabilities for food, accommodation and the time to enjoy the surroundings.
An ancient knowing and his peaceful experience are still part of the porch atmosphere where he used to love to watch the sun setting every evening.

“These days, The Buttero Room is often available for Marco, a legendary Spiedo Bresciano (grilled meat) man. Rumor has it that spending some nights in here is definitely going to make your lack of appetite disappear.”

The Journey Room

This place in actually called “Travel Agency” because anyone who stays here has the possibility – if they purchase the ticket – to start a special journey and reach distant and mysterious corners of the Universe. Sleeping in this room opens up the doors of dreams and unknown dimensions. Once it happened that a man disassembled the bed and slept under the porch, due to the fear of getting on that journey. Likewise, courageous guests book this room year after year in order to take a trip to the infinite worlds of their souls.
The secret of this special place is an underground creek that goes through the farm house of Scuderia Castello and 20 mt under The Journey Room. The water is running and awakens people's feelings and perceptions.

“Piece of advice: the dream state and reality are separated by a very thin line and it gets easy to get lost and forget where you put your feet on. The only way to find your way home is to follow the water and dive without fear into the depth of your intuition. Anyhow, do as you please, but don't disassemble the bed! (Thank you).”

The Soldier Room

After being granted a rest period, an Israeli soldier and his wife spent two weeks at the Scuderia Castello.
He suffered from PTSD because he fought against the Palestinians and was in need of a three month rehabilitation vacation. They would have breakfast every morning at the same time, but then, one day, they didn't show up. Later that morning I managed to knock on their door. As I peeked through the curtains I could see that the wardrobe was sitting against the door, the bed was upside down and the rest of the furniture was gathered together near the wall. I looked closer and could see both of them hiding underneath it all. “War... my God... war is near... are they looking for us?”, they almost screamed.
It took me half an hour to make clear that there was no war going on... just hunting day! People weren't shooting to other people, but to poor birds!

“The Soldier Room is tranquil and safe. Just be aware that hunters can be impolite and ruin your sleep early in the morning. If that's the case, then make sure you'll have a nap later in the afternoon.”

The Single Room

A small but comfortable room made for a single person (when no other room is available).
There was this girl, a pretty girl, who carried a big and strange object with her. It turned out it was a trombone.
Usually, customers who come with their musical instruments want to entertain the other guests by playing graciously during dinner time or after the sunset, just to make us all feel more cheerful and happy. She didn't. Strangely, we would hear the trombone sound only during the night, but – fortunately! - only for brief moments.
The trombone was playing sad notes and sometimes even lighter melodies and it was stirring everybody's curiosity in the middle of the dark. The mystery was unveiled years later while having a wine-watered dinner with old friends when someone with a hint of pride said “Guys, do you remember the girl with the trombone? She liked me a lot and I would sneaked inside her room through the back window and she would wait for me covered in perfume only. After “the fact” she felt compelled in a trance-like state to play the trombone and it was me who kept her from playing it all night long!”.
That was the story, but no one could remember the trombone playing for more, even if our friend swore that it was so!

“Just a little reminder for our future guests of The Single Room: bring an instrument, any would do... but don't forget to close the back window! ”
